Far to the north of our continent, on the Taimyr Peninsula, far to the north of all major settlements, flows the Popigay River. On the banks of the river there is a small village of reindeer herders, Novy Popigay, whose inhabitants belong to a small, endangered northern people called the Dolgans. Life in these places is a constant struggle for survival. The basis of the Dolgans' life and culture is reindeer herding, which is now in danger of extinction due to a mysterious epidemic that has struck the reindeer.

On July 3, 2025, Russia became the first country in the world to officially recognize the Second Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, governed by the Taliban. Today, with foreign forces no longer present on its soil, Afghanistan exists in a state of fragile civil peace. The British withdrew, the Germans were taken prisoner, the Russians pulled out. The Americans fled. In our film “Operation Withdrawal”, we explored the history of relations between Russia and Afghanistan in detail. “Operation Escape” continues this exploration, turning to the most recent chapter of that history. The profound changes reshaping the world — changes that concern not only long-suffering Afghanistan but, through its experience, all of us — are examined not only by politicians, historians and scholars. At the heart of our film are ordinary citizens of Russia and Afghanistan whose lives have been irrevocably transformed by the turbulent events of the past fifty years.

A film about the fate of film director Vitaly Melnikov. The son of an “enemy of the people”, a student of Yutkevich and Eisenstein, a witness to Stalin's “cult of personality” and its further denunciation, Melnikov created such famous films as “Chief of Chukotka”, “Mother Got Married”, “Eldest Son”, “Vacation in September”, “To Marry a Captain”, and “Poor, Poor Paul”. The documentary about Vitaly Melnikov covers a personal story of the director, as well as Soviet and post-Soviet history of Russia that are impossible to separate.
